On the beginning of May I was assigned an exciting task, namely to accompany and interpret for a delegation from Meissen; the reason: On the occasion of the 110th Arita Porcelain Festival a group of 7 visitors of Arita`s sister city in Germany, Meissen (including Mr. Olaf Raschke, Mayor of Meissen and District Administrator of the Meissen district Mr. Arndt Steinbach), came to Japan to further strengthen the bonds of friendship between Arita and Meissen.

5月の始めに、私はマイセン団体のための案内や通訳という面白い課題を与えられました。なぜなら、第10回有田陶器市の際、オラフ・ラシュケ・マイセン市長とアーント・シュタインバッハ・マイセン郡長をはじめ、有田町の姉妹都市であるドイツのマイセン市から7人の訪問団体が、有田町とマイセン市の友好をさらに深めるため、来日したからです。

The delegation arrived in Fukuoka on Friday (April 26th) and, after two days of doing some sightseeing there, came to Arita on Sunday, where they were greeted by the mayor and vice-mayor of Arita, as well as by their guest families where they would spend the following days in Arita.

訪問団体は金曜日（4月26日）に福岡に到着し、そこで二日間観光した後、日曜日に有田町にも来ました。有田町での対面式の時、有田町長と副町長、またホストファミリー（あそこで有田町滞在中に泊まる予定でした）から歓迎されました。

On Monday, May 29th the opening ceremony of Arita`s Porcelain Festival was held in front of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Of course the Meissen guests attended it too and afterwards took part in the festival parade. After that they had time to walk around and enjoy the Porcelain Festival that was btw. visited by about 250.000 people on that day.

月曜日（4月29日）に商工会議所の前で有田陶器市の開会式が行われました。もちろんマイセン団体も一緒にいて、またパレードにも参加しました。その後、当日25万人ものお客さんが訪れた陶器市を自由に見回し、楽しめました。

At night we all met again at the Porcelain Park together with the guest families, the mayor and vice mayor of Arita, as well as some members of the Arita-Meissen friendship association, in order to attend the welcome reception for the Meissen delegation. Our guests were not only impressed by the imposing recreation of the Zwinger palace in Dresden, that can be found there, but also by the idea of eating inside of this building (as obviously it is not possible to just rent the Zwinger palace in Dresden to have dinner there ;)). While our guests could enjoy a sushi buffet and other Japanese foods, we on the other hand were able to try the German beer and Meissen wine that they had brought with them.

それから夕方にポーセリンパークでまた集合し、有田町長と副町長をはじめ、ホストファミリーや有田・マイセン友好協会のメンバーとともに歓迎夕食会を行いました。マイセンのお客さんは、ドレスデン ツヴィンガー宮殿を再現した建物の魅力だけではなく、その建物の中で夕食するのも印象に残ったそうです（なぜなら、もちろん本物のツヴィンガー宮殿を借りて食事ができるわけではないからです ;））。歓迎夕食会では、マイセン団はお寿司など和食が堪能できた一方、他のお客さんは、マイセン団が持ってきていただいたドイツのビールとマイセンワインも楽しめました。

For the following day an important meeting, the sister city conference, was scheduled and took place in the town hall. During the conference not only plans for the Arita-Meissen Sister Cities 35th anniversary next year were discussed, but both parties also came up with interesting ideas for Arita`s “400 years of porcelain” anniversary in 2016. At the end of the conference there was a small porcelain painting event, where the mayors of both cities “signed” two big porcelain plates as a symbol for the friendship between Arita and Meissen.

次の日に姉妹都市会議という大事なミ―ティングが有田町役場で行われました。この会議の際、有田・マイセン姉妹都市連携35周年の記念事業についての話し合いに加えて、2016年の「有田400年際」のためにも様々な面白いアイディアが浮かびました。また、会議の後、絵付けのイベントがあって、有田とマイセンの友好のシンボルとして有田町長とマイセン市長が両方、2枚の大きい磁器の皿に名前を「描きました」。

As we had some time before and after the conference, we were able to show our guests some of Arita`s most interesting spots: The terraced rice fields, the Kakiemon kiln that has been connected to the Meissen manufactory in many ways (Meissen first copied and imitated the Kakiemon porcelain style in its early years) and the Kyushu Ceramics Museum where we could enjoy the Kyushu Yamaguchi Ceramics Exhibition (an exhibition with amazing works by Japanese ceramics artists) amongst others.

姉妹都市会議の前後にそんなに忙しくなかったので、マイセン団に有田の魅力的なところを少しでも紹介することができました。案内したのは、岳の棚田、マイセンと特別な関係がある柿右衛門窯（マイセン磁器製作所が最初の頃、柿右衛門式の磁器を真似したのです）などで、九州山口陶磁展が展示された九州陶磁文化館などにも見学に行きました。

On Wednesday, May 1st, another important meeting was held, this time at the Saga prefectural office, where the Meissen delegation was greeted by the vice-governor of Saga prefecture and members of the prefectural assembly.

水曜日（5月1日）には、もう一つの大事な行事があったのです：佐賀県庁に行って、佐賀県副知事と議員さんを表敬訪問しました。

Besides all the official events of course we also wanted to show our German guests some beautiful sightseeing spots in and around Saga prefecture! During their stay we were able to visit the castle, the Niji-no-Matsubara pine forest and the mountain Kagami-yama in Karatsu, the Yutoku-inari shrine in Kashima and a beautiful Onsen in Ureshino.

このような公式行事以外に、ドイツ人のお客さんが佐賀県周辺の素晴らしい観光スポットも体験できたらいいと思いましたから、唐津城、虹ノ松原や鑑山、また鹿島の祐徳稲荷神社など、きれいな景色の中にある嬉野の温泉などにも行きました。

Further, on the group`s last day in Japan we could even meet a special wish by the mayor of Meissen, and go to the Aso region with its impressive landscape.

また、マイセン団の最後の日に、マイセン市長の特別なリクエストに応えて、景色がとても印象的な阿蘇地方の観光もできました。

On Friday 3rd the delegation eventually went back to Germany. I had an exhausting but very interesting week with our German guests, who were all very nice! I would like to thank all the town hall staff involved and the kind guest families who also did everything to ensure that the visitors would enjoy their stay. And a special thanks to Mr. Kay Leonhardt, chairman of the Meissen-Arita friendship association, who helped organize the trip, for all his patience and kindness! Danke schön 🙂

そして、5月3日（金）に皆さんはまた帰国しました。私は、少し疲れたが、ドイツ人のお客さんと一緒にとても面白い時間をすごしました。役場職員の関係者の皆さん、マイセン団が有田にいる時をとても楽しく過ごすように頑張ったホストファミリーの皆さん、どうもありがとうございました！また、もちろんマイセン・有田友好協会の会長でありマイセン団訪問を担当したカイ・レオンハ－トの親切に対しても感謝の言葉を伝えたいと思います。Danke schön 🙂

The next visitors from Meissen are already going to come in October, as a group of pupils from Meissen will come to Arita for the 23rd youth exchange between both cities. Looking forward to it^^.

次にマイセンのお客さんにお目にかかるのは、すでに今年の10月です。なぜなら、23代目の青少年交流の際、マイセンの学生が有田に来る予定だからです。楽しみにしています.
