June Events Calendar

We’re already halfway into June, but here’s a selection of events you might yet enjoy this month! Make sure to double check whether an event is still ongoing before heading out!

Also, it’s ume season! Try making umeshu, ume syrup, or umeboshi!

Imari Okawachiyama Windchime Festival 2020
  • Details:  Okawachiyama village is already famous for its pittoresque streets, but if you haven’t visited yet, this is a great opportunity. Porcelain wind chimes will be hung up throughout the town. If you find one that catches your eye (or ear), you may purchase it in a nearby store, along with various other porcelain wares.
  • When: June 17 to August 31

Enjoy Rice Seedlings and Terraced Rice Fields during a Walk through Warabino
  • Details: Walk through terraced ricefields in their most instagrammable season. A photo contest will be held during. Course is 6.5 km long (~4 miles).
  • When: June 18 (Sun.) 10:00 – 13:30
  • Where: Terraced Rice Fields Community Square (Google Maps)
  • Cost: 1000 yen (You’ll get an onigiri and some watermelon too!)

Mikaeri no Taki Waterfall Hydrangea Festival
  • Details: On weekends, there is a shuttle bus available from the Hotaru Bridge for 100 yen (either direction). Parking is also available (500 yen for regular/kei cars). The waterfall is also illuminated between 19:20 and 22:00. Check out Avery’s 2017 blog post about it for more info!
  • When: June 3 (Sat.) to June 25 (Sun.)
