Finding English-Speaking Clinics

SPIRA – the Saga Prefecture International Relations Association, can provide interpreters for free for medical cases, if you make arrangements in advance. You can contact SPIRA through their Facebook, via email or telephone (0952-25-7921).
SPIRA also provides a multilingual call center service to a number of hospitals in the prefecture. This page includes a list of hospitals registered to use this service.

InHos – you can choose city or service from a list of places in Saga (or other prefectures).
99 Saga Net – set up by the Saga Prefectural Government, you can search in Japanese or English for different types of clinics (can specify English speaking options).
United States Consulate, Fukuoka – maintains an online list of English-speaking doctors across Kyushu, organized by prefecture. Click on the Fukuoka tab and scroll down to see the list of doctors in Saga.

Imamura Hospital

Occasionally has had someone there who can speak English, but regardless they are always very patient and try their best to help. Very close to the Tosu ALT Leopalace apartments. Website.

Kuroda Family Clinic

No English, but the staff were very friendly, patient and helpful (they used lots of gestures and simple Japanese). Also a very short walk/cycle from the Tosu ALT Leopalace apartments. Website

Moroe Cardiovascular Clinic

Despite its name, it is a just a general practice in Taku. May still have a doctor that speaks English. Website.

Koga Hospital

A hospital in Kohoku that can assist with consultations, testing, and hospitalization. They have a specific focus on respiratory care. There is a pharmacy adjacent.

Fukuda Neurology Hospital

Dr. Fukuda can communicate in basic English and Spanish. The doctors here frequently switch days, so it might be worth to check in advance if you want an English consultation. Getting your first appointment may not be as simple as a walk-in, you might need a letter of introduction from your doctor.

Shiraki Clinic

A cardiology clinic. The doctor speaks English, but the staff here do not, but using their services via translation devices/apps is recommended by at least one Sajo ALT, as they were able to get many complicated tests easily through this clinic. There is also a pharmacy in front of the clinic, with staff who are happy to help you via translation and will mail you your prescription if they do not have enough stock.

Nagamitoyashi Clinic

Based in Takeo, the head doctor speaks a little English but all staff are very kind and patient and willing to use translation apps. As of July 2026, there is now an English speaking doctor that has been hired. Website

Ookuma Obstetrics & Gynecology

You can get the morning-after pill, and other forms of birth control. Offers gynecology and post-natal care as well, and you can also get tested here. It is recommended that you make an appointment. Website.

Recommended Dentists

Ura Dental Clinic

This dentistry is good. The dentist can communicate in basic English. The staff cannot, but they try their best. You can call or try to walk in for a same day appointment, but you can also book an appointment for 2-3 days ahead of time on their website. They provide certain forms in both English and Japanese. NB: Japanese Dentists will likely fill only one cavity per session. This is due to how insurance is billed. If you pay out of pocket, you may be able to get one that can fill them in multiple sessions. Website.
