October Events in Saga

Circle Time Halloween with Asomanabu

Come join your fellow JETs in reading, singing, and playing games with children in Saga! This event is to make kids feel a familiarity toward English and learn a bit about Halloween. This will be a bigger event than usual Circle Times, so please come out and help if you’re available!

  • When: Saturday, October 24 from 10:00am-12:00pm (help setting up and tearing down is appreciated)
  • Where: Saga International Plaza in Shoko Building
10,000 People in Saga Kanpai Project

This is an event to raise awareness and pride in the Saga sake industry. The first event was celebrated by 7,000 people, and 8,000 celebrated last year. You will, of course, be toasting with designated Saga sake.

  • When: Thursday, October 1 at 7:30pm (arrive earlier to get ready for the kanpai)
  • Where: 600 locations across Saga Prefecture (check for details here)
The Long Journey Overseas: Ancient and Middle Age Exchange between Japan and Korea
  • When: Friday, September 18 to Wednesday, November 4
  • Where: Nagoya Castle Museum
  • Cost: ¥500 for entrance. There is an additional ¥100 material fee on October 11
Fourth Annual Kyushu Hula Festival in Ureshino Onsen
  • When: Saturday, October 3, 10:00am-6:00pm and Sunday, October 4, 9:30am-6:00pm
  • Where: Miyuki Park
  • Cost: ¥2000 in advance or ¥2500 day-of
Keep Pine Project

An event to clean up Niji no Matsubara

  • When: Sunday, October 4, 9:00am-10:30am (may be delayed or canceled in case of rain)

Nakajima Yamakasa Festival
  • When: Saturday, October 10, 1:00pm-5:00pm and Sunday, October 11, 9:30am-5:00pm
  • Where: JA Kyuuragi Fruit Sorting Lot  (JA厳木選果場跡地)
Cardboard Puppet Theater: Hanakku the Flower’s Story
  • When: Sunday, October 11, 2:00pm (hall opens at 1:00pm)

57th Annual Arita Sarayama Festival
  • When: Sunday, October 18
  • Where: Omatsuri Hiroba (in front of Arita Station)
Meiji Arita: The Days of the World Expo
  • When: Friday, October 16 to Sunday, December 6, 9:00am-3:00pm (closed Mondays except November 23)

Saga Light Fantasy Opening Ceremony and Halloween Parade

You can enjoy the event and parade as an audience member or join the parade itself in costume!

  • When: Thursday, October 29
  • Where: Chuo Dori (the main street running from Saga Station to Kencho)
  • Additional info: Sign up is necessary to join the parade; group sign-up is available–see the website for details
2015 Saga International Balloon Festa

One of the biggest events in Saga!

  • When: Friday, October 30 to Tuesday, November 3 (check the website for event schedule and exact times)
  • Where: Kase Riverside in Saga City (a temporary train station, JR Balloon Saga, will be in operation for the event)
